Warrior Mummy is Doing The Warrior Dash!

Originally posted on my previous blog: http://myspecialstorybooks.blogspot.com/

I'm doing The Warrior Dash which is a 5.13km mud-crawling, fire-leaping, extreme run from hell. This fierce running series is held on challenging and rugged terrain. Warriors conquer extreme obstacles, push their limits and celebrate with live music, beer and Warrior helmets. If you want to find out more about The Warrior Dash please go to: http://warriordash.com/register2012_new_south_wales.php

Now I'm not sure about the beer and helmets part but I am sure this event is a fitting metaphor for what it's like being an Autism Warrior Mum emotionally, mentally and sometimes physically too every day.

Most who have heard of Autism have also heard the term Warrior Mummy. It's a term we use for the mums affected by autism who fight. We fight for awareness, we fight for our kids rights, our kids inclusion, our kids happiness and our kids futures. Many of us forget to fight for ourselves.

I have taken the title of Warrior Mum VERY seriously since my boys were diagnosed and I found myself winning battles big and small for my boys but losing the battle of the bulge, losing my joy and losing my SELF.

After a SERIOUS life overhaul and several life challenges during the last half of last year I lost 18 kilos, gained fitness and gained back my SELF and my joy too.

For me the Warrior Dash is about overcoming obstacles, pushing yourself and your limits, getting up if you fall and NEVER GIVING UP.

Please support me in my warrior quest and I'll pay that support forward to The Autism & Aspergers Support Group Inc. If you know me, you know that being a part of AASG has had a profound effect on me and my family and that becoming the president of this organisation is one of my proudest achievements.

See you at the finish line!

Post note: I raised $750 for the Autism & Aspergers Support Group Inc and finished in under an hour. I came in 103 out of 550 competitors in my category. Go me!
